State Historical Museum
The State Historical Museum opened its doors on the Red Square in 1883, with Tsar Alexander III and his wife being the first visitors. It is the largest national museum, with millions of artefacts and paintings from ancient times up to the beginning of the 20th century.
Please note that the museum is closed on Tuesdays.
At the back of the museum there’s a well-known monument to Marshal Georgy Zhukov, who led the Soviets to great victories during WWII. Get directions.
